Schlachtensee

Berlin's Schlachtensee, on the edge of the Grunewald forest, is perfect for an after-work swimming session. Thanks to its own S-Bahn connection, it can be reached quickly and comfortably. With its idyllic forests, the lake offers an ideal setting to relax in nature. Simply stretch out your bath towel on the sunbathing lawn: ready! But even bathers can get their money's worth at Schlachtensee. In addition to a boat rental for leisurely paddling or pedal boating, the historic fishing lodge with sun terrace and beer garden invites you to linger.

Bathing at the Schlachtensee lido

The lido Schlachtensee is perfect for swimming and is not for nothing one of the most popular bathing places in Berlin. There are several bathing places at the lake. The closest and largest is the central sunbathing area on the south shore not far from the S-Bahn station. After about 50 m walk you will find there a sunbathing area with a few sandy sections.

If you prefer a more sandy beach and shallow access to the water, the best place is on the northeast shore. However, this part of the shore is also the most crowded. In addition to the bathing area, you will also find a playground for children, bicycle racks, parking spaces and for your physical well-being, the old fishing hut. You can read more about it below.

Water quality

The water quality in Schlachtensee is very good. The quality of the water is regularly controlled by the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LAGeSo) and published on the website. Most recently, a water sample was conducted on 07.09.2016 with the result that the lake is suitable for bathing and swimming. Also a measurement according to EU classification for bathing water came to the result: excellent.

Boat rental Schlachtensee and Stand Up Paddling (SUP)

If all the hustle and bustle on the shore is too much for you, you can also simply take a rowboat to the middle of the lake and enjoy the sun. On the one hand, there is Werner Hoppe's boat rental southwest of the S-Bahn station. There you can choose from a variety of rowing boats. On hot summer days you should be quick, because then the boats are sometimes completely occupied. Pedal boats and motor boats are not offered.

If you prefer to try stand up paddling at Schlachtensee instead, you have to walk from the S-Bahn station to the right in the direction of Nord-Ost-Ufer. Arrived at the Fischerhütte you will find there the SUP rental of Steh-Paddler.com. There are also courses for beginners , SUP yoga and group events offered.

The Fischerhütte at the Schlachtensee is a popular destination. The hut was restored in 2005 and includes a restaurant and café with a sun terrace and a beer garden with a perfect view over the lake.

Barbecue at the Schlachtensee

Unfortunately, barbecuing is not possible at the lake as there are no designated barbecue areas.

Dog ban

Currently a back and forth rages about a dog ban at Schlachtensee. After the district had pronounced a general dog ban for the lake, this was lifted again by the administrative court in December 2015. As a result, dogs were again allowed to run around at Schlachtensee. Thereupon, however, the district imposed a temporary dog ban only for the summer months. However, this decision was also overturned by the court in June 2016. Thus, for the time being, dogs (leashed) are allowed to be walked on the banks again.

With a circumference of 5.5 km, the lake is also ideal for long walks or jogging laps along the continuous paths along the shore.
